Launching the ITALIA MIA festival in Central, Hong Kong

A little piece of Italy will be coming to Hong Kong this autumn, with the debut of the ITALIA MIA festival.

With attractions covering food, wine, film, opera, art & design and entertainment, the festival aims to provide Hongers Kongers with an authentic slice of Italian culture.

The busy, two-month programme opens with an exhibition showcasing original drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, on loan from the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan. Leonardo da Vinci Art and Science Then and Now commemorates the 500th anniversary of da Vinci’s death.

As a tribute to the artist, nine contemporary artists – eight based in Hong Kong – have produced new artworks imagining what da Vinci might have done in an era of digital media and virtual reality.

On October 7, RunITALY has been organised at Hong Kong Science and Technology Park, with an eight kilometre race for amateur runners and a one kilometre fun-run for families and children. There’ll be plenty of live Italian music and performances and post-race food, snacks and wine.

And in October Opera Hong Kong will be hosting the premiere of Verdi’s Rigoletto Opera. The event takes place at Hong Kong Cultural Centre, October 9-12 and 13.

Look out for a host of further Italian-themed gastronomic and cultural events throughout October and November.

ITALIA MIA is a collaborative partnership between the Consulate General of Italy in Hong Kong, the Marco Polo Society and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and Macao.
