What’s in store in Singapore this Christmas
Christmas Wonderland, Gardens by the Bay
Singapore’s popular Christmas Wonderland event returns to Gardens by the Bay for its sixth year. Highlights include a brand new, interactive Santa’s Workshop, a rich mix of international theatrical productions and three-dimensional light installations.
Plus, there’ll be carnival games and rides, plenty of shopping opportunities in the Christmas Village and lots of festive dining.
And for the first time, Christmas Wonderland will be welcoming a Christmas Parade featuring cheeky penguins, dancing elves and Santa on his reindeer-led sleigh. The Parade will wend its way around the gardens on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Santa’s Workshop features a walk-through forest and giant snow globe, taking visitors past hard-working, animatronic elves. Father Christmas will be there, supervising the elves and ready for photos.
More selfie opportunities abound in the Walk of Peace, a 50m tunnel of lights using more than 60,000 bulbs.
A giant Christmas tree dominates the fairground, alongside a 21-metre, three-dimensional Spalliera inspired by the towers of San Gimignano in Tuscany, Italy.
Four live performances include circus performers from Australia Trash Test Dummies; smash-hit London production Snow Play; an adaptation of The Old Shoemaker; and New York illusionist Vitaly Beckman. And of course there’ll also be plenty of Christmas carolling, too.
Admission starts from S$6 per person, admission tickets are available online with savings of up to 40%. The event runs from November 29 to December 26.
Sparkling Wonders of Christmas at Jewel, Changi Airport
This is Jewel‘s first Christmas and it’s going big with its festive cheer. Highlights include Jewel Frozen Wonderland at the Shiseido Forest Valley, featuring a Christmas Light and Snow Show inspired by Disney’s Frozen 2.
The show can be enjoyed every evening from 6.30pm. There will also be a chance to meet Frozen characters Anna, Elsa and Olaf on the weekends of November 22-24 and November 29 – December 1.
And don’t forget to check out the Jewel Festive Market at Cloud9 Piazza on level 5. It features fun game booths, interactive craft workshops, stalls and entertainment.
Visitors can also experience a white Christmas in the tropics courtesy of Jewel’s Snow Walk and Snowfall Spectacular. And of course, there will be a giant Christmas tree dominating events.
The whole event kicks off on November 21 and runs until January 5, 2020.
Island Lights, Sentosa Cove Village
Sentosa Cove’s interactive light art installations are set to dazzle this festive season.
The Island Light event features local and international artists who have transformed Sentosa Cove Village with their illuminations.
Highlights include a 135m-long space where guests can immerse themselves in the landscape of light installations that have been created around the theme of ‘celebration’.
A programme of festive events will take place each weekend, featuring fire twirlers, movie screenings, roving percussion performances and more. And enjoy the nightly Snowflakes Symphony as you dine at Quayside Isle, with 300 colour-changing neon snowflakes set to festive music.
Admission to Island Lights is free and the event runs 6.30-10.30pm, from now until December 31. Enjoy S$6 off Grab rides into Sentosa Island by using the code ‘SentosaEvenings’.
Christmas on A Great Street
Orchard Road Business Association (OBRA) presents The Greatest Gift on A Great Street. The event includes fun activities for all ages and runs from now until January 1.
The thoroughfare from Tanglin Mall to Plaza Singapura has been decked out with colourful festive lights featuring tiny Santas hanging from the trees and on the glittering arches that welcome visitors from Orchard Road.
Bigger and grander lamp-post decorations will line the three sub-precincts of Tanglin, Orchard and Somerset, each with its own theme featuring Santas on baubles, gift boxes or snowflakes.
New this year is a welcome arch at the junction of Tanglin and Grange Road with more than thirty giant festive greetings cards on three-metre tall glass shards along Orchard Road. Decorations have also been extended towards Grange Road and Orchard Link.
Set pieces on the pavements of Orchard Road mean pedestrians can pose with Santa on his reindeer or walk through a tunnel of Christmas icons.
The event runs from now until January 1, 2020.
The Great Christmas Village
The Great Christmas Village will be returning for its third year, popping up at three venues on Orchard Road. The marquee event will be taking place at SCAPE, Grange Road Car Park and Shaw House Urban Plaza. It features more than 30 game booths and rides, including a family-friendly double-tier carousel, pirate ship and London train.
There will also be live performances and visitors can feast on street food from 14 food trucks.
The Great Christmas Village will be open from November 23 to December 26.
