Six Senses Fort Barwara, Rajasthan, India

(This news is hot off the press, currently there are no photos of the property available, but we will update this space as soon as images come through to us).

This ambitious project sees the luxury resort brand open in a fourteenth century fort, three hours drive from Jaipur. And, no doubt, it’s going to be one of the most anticipated Indian hotel openings in 2020.

The property was originally owned by the Rajasthani Royal Family and as a hotel, it will offer 48 suites, two restaurants, a Six Senses Spa, fitness centre, two swimming pools and a kids’ club. The hotel will offer daily drives into Ranthambhore National Park, home to tigers, leopards and more.

This is the first Six Senses property to open in India. The fort was constructed 700 years ago and is now being restored by a descendant of the noble family of Barwara in partnership with Espire Group.

The build is being led by a team of conservation experts and the team is aiming for a five-star green rating from Integrated Habitat Assessment certification, the highest classification of national sustainable design in India. The design will also incorporate traditional gardens and water features.

Six Senses Fort Barwara is scheduled to open in March, 2020.

Guests will also be able to use the amenities on Bawah’s main island, which is just  a few minutes away by boat. The interiors of the sustainably designed rooms will be made of recycled natural materials. Some suites will have private pools and direct sea access.

Guests can book just one lodge, or the entire island. Elang is the second of Bawah Reserve’s six islands to be developed.

Arctic Bath, Sweden

Cool construction in Swedish Lapland

Arctic Bath in Swedish Lapland is a floating spa hotel which will be open year-round. During the summer it’s anchored freely and in winter it’s frozen into the Lule River.

The design of the hotel resembles a sculpture of piled-up logs and is inspired by the timber floating era in northern Sweden in the nineteenth century. Local watercourses were used to transport felled trees from inland forests to sawmills on the coast.

Arctic Bath has a circular shape to create a protected environment. The centre of the bath can be used for sunbathing or winter bathing, depending on the season. In winter, the water temperature is four degrees and is kept free of ice by the protective shape of the hotel.

The hotel will offer just 12 rooms and one restaurant; some accommodation will be on the water and some will be land-based.

Arctic Bath is scheduled to open in mid-2020.

Belmond Splendido Mare, Italy

This 14-room boutique property is under renovation by Belmond and will be reopened in the summer.

Belmond Splendido Mare is located in the heart of Portofino and close to Belmond Hotel Splendido.

Once a haven for fishermen, the townhouse now offers ten rooms and four suites, with views over Portofino harbour. Rooms are accented with typical Ligurian colours – expect ambers, sea greens and terracottas. The hotel restaurant, Chuflay, will continue to serve locals and visitors alike.

“This new chapter will embrace the philosophy of simple pleasures,” said Charlotte de Tonnac, co-founder of the Paris-based architects briefed with leading the redesign. “The art of good living, of scooping the sauce of your pasta with the last bit of bread!” Saluti to that.

Belmond Splendido Mare is scheduled to reopen in June, 2020.

Six Senses New York

Life on The High Line – Six Senses launches in North America

Six Senses debuts in North America this year with what’s set to be the most buzzed about American hotel openings in 2020. The property will be set within a two-tower property located between the Hudson River and The High Line.

The urban hotel is a step away from the brand’s usual resort-based offerings. “The project is an exciting contrast to the typical Six Senses locations, where we operate resorts in settings with azure waters, UNESCO heritage listings and lush rainforests,” agreed chief executive officer, Neil Jacobs.

The property will be developed in partnership with HFZ Capital Group and will be part of an overall project named The Eleventh. The mixed-use development will bring to downtown Manhattan’s West Side its first five-star hotel, 240 condominium residences and high-end retail shopping.

Six Senses will be located in the east tower over ten floors and with 137 rooms. Facilities will include a Six Senses spa, two restaurants and there are plans for a private members club within the hotel.

The overall project aims to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.

Six Senses New York is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2020.
